The Job

2019

Dear God, I ask forgiveness,
For being bored,
For all the reluctance
For benefiting from all it gives me,
While viewing it as a drudgery.
For being content despite it,
Instead of because of it

Dear God,
Please give me a heart
Where hope stands apart from strength
So that I can do as I need to,
Sustained not by the hope of a day where I wont.

Please blind the love in my heart,
So I will see the product of my duty
And not my face as I do it.
Please strengthen my back,
So I can continue to carry those with paper feet.
Please don't let me curse my talents,
Please don't let my drive only provide others benefits,
Else take it from me, and let the stones cry out for bread to sustain me.

Am I precious heirloom, or just a mirror fogged by the years?
Am I a path to freedom, or just a trail too rutted to use
Am I beloved, or am I a tool
Or maybe I am a beloved tool, whose value later becomes the memory of its usefulness
